The Elmbrook Rotary Club has named Alli Hickmann, choir director at Brookfield Central High School, as its 2026 recipient of the Excellence in Service to the Community Award, honoring her as this year’s Outstanding Educator! This recognition, formerly part of the Brookfield Jaycees Distinguished Service Awards, is now carried forward by the Rotary Club to celebrate exceptional service by educators, police officers, firefighters, and EMTs.

Alli was nominated for her transformational leadership within the Brookfield Central music department and her deep-rooted impact across the greater Elmbrook community. Since returning to her alma mater in 2015, she has revitalized the choir program, nearly tripling student participation through her talent, positivity, and unwavering commitment to fostering an inclusive environment. Her leadership has redefined the program as a cornerstone of the school’s elective offerings and a model of student engagement throughout the district.

In true Brookfield Central fashion, Alli was surprised with the announcement of the award during this year’s Choirpalooza, surrounded by her students, colleagues, and families. The moment was a fitting tribute to a leader whose work is so often centered on elevating others.

“Alli’s leadership extends far beyond the stage,” shared Dr. Mark Hansen, Superintendent. “She has created a culture where excellence, belonging, and service intersect. Through her work, students don’t just develop as musicians - they grow as leaders who understand the importance of giving back to their community.”

Alli consistently bridges the gap between school and community, demonstrating to her students the power of service through music. She coordinates performances at local nursing homes and civic events, ensuring that students’ talents bring joy and connection to community members. Her leadership also supports significant initiatives such as the Golden Harvest Thanksgiving Dinner, which provides a free meal for nearly 200 senior citizens, and the Waukesha County Christmas Clearing Council, where she helps facilitate vital holiday support for local families.

In addition to her work in the music department, Alli serves as co-advisor for the Brookfield Central Student Council, where she is deeply committed to cultivating student leadership. She mentors students as they plan and execute large-scale community events, including the annual Trunk or Treat, which welcomes more than 300 families each year. By empowering students with the tools to lead, organize, and serve, Alli instills a lifelong “Service Above Self” mindset that extends well beyond their high school years.

Alli will be presented with her prestigious award at this year’s Engaged in Excellence Awards on May 4 at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts.

Congratulations, Alli!
